Values Alignment Map
The Values Alignment Map puts two things side by side: how much an area of your life matters to you, and how consistently your actions have matched it. In the worksheet below, for each area of life, you'll be asked to rate it once for how important it is to you, and then again for how consistently your actions have aligned with it. Then we'll generate a map that shows where the two line up and where they drift apart.
The idea comes from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which treats what we value and how we spend our time as two separate things worth checking against each other. When there's a gap between the two in an area you care about, that can help identify a good place to work on.
The eight areas below are the life domains the APPA app uses to group its 50+ values: Relationships, Family, Community & Environment, Work, Health, Spirituality, Leisure, and Personal Growth. You can read more about personal core values here.
Step 1 · Importance
How much does each area matter to you? 1 is low, 10 is high.
Step 2 · Consistency
How consistently have your actions aligned with it? 1 is hardly ever, 10 is almost always.
There are no right answers. Go with your first instinct, and change any rating whenever you like.

Your values alignment map
Each dot is one area. Higher means it matters more to you. Further right means you've acted on it more consistently. Dots in the shaded corner matter a lot to you and are getting the least of you.
Worth a look
None of your high-importance areas are far from how you're living.
How importance is spread
- High 8–10: 0
- Medium 4–7: 0
- Low 1–3: 0
How to read the map
- On the diagonal means you're acting in line with what matters.
- Above it means you care more than you've acted. The further above, the bigger the gap.
- Below it means you're putting in more than that area ranks, which is fine if that's what you intend.

Comparing how much a value matters with how consistently you act on it is a common idea in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This worksheet is our own version of it.
